Weekend Moments

This weekend we got a peek of blue sky (pictured here from our office window), lots of rain, a Saturday morning with Keith, Amy and Sam (note track suit and many new teeth!), a Portuguese cooking lesson with Spanish olives appetizer and a performance by CeU an amazing Brazilian singer who was in town at The Triple Door. We should have three-day weekends EVERY week!

Friends of the Library

This fall I went to the bi-annual Friends of the Library sale. I shouldn't have gone because I DO NOT NEED any more books...but my rationalization was I could go on the last day when everything was 1/2 off and I could look for old books to use for envelopes and letters. Big Trouble! I showed some restraint. I went in with a mission. Old sailing books. Old bird books. Foreign language books. I used a bird guide to wrap a treat for Grams. The man at the post office said he didn't want to put a postage sticker on it. Here it is pre-postage!

i-Made This i-Pod Case

I originally bought this vinyl material with an i-Pod case in mind. I added some super convenient instant velcro for a hip, waterproof, homemade carrying case.

Compartmentalized

My piece de resistance is the blue suede and vinyl bag pocket pouch I made to go in the brown bag I scored at a summer garage sale. Though it was sunny and warm I envisioned the upcoming fall and me tooling around campus with this great shoulder bag! To prevent the perpetual digging for needed items that I end up doing, I made this little organizer...now I have to remember to actually put the pens, cell phone and wallet BACK into the pockets. One thing at a time.

Loving the Roll

Here is my place mat roll. My office has lots of shared workspace that teachers need to use for grading, prepping and eating. I can unroll my instant place mat with napkin, silver ware and salt and pepper packet (THANKS GRAMS!)

Made This Update

Here is my supply roll for school. I think I want to add a row at the top to make it more evenly weighted when it is all rolled. I like the cherries, green and brown together. Unrolling it when I sit down to work makes me feel purposeful, like my tool belt! I might make a knitting/crocheting needle case too.

Good Vibes

I'm thinking about my Grams a lot these days and want to focus on healing energy for this special, wonderful lady.

Happy Corners

I like this simple little corner in my bedroom. My friend Jane's lovely dresser (on loan) a potted plant, picture, and orange mirror....it looks so peaceful without clothes piled everywhere!

Slipping Sunlight

The post daylight saving time darkness is setting in. While teaching today at 4:15 the classroom took on a 'night class' feel. In addition, the forecast is for rain, I skipped my yoga class and instead of grading papers I feel like watching this again while eating an almond chocolate bar....HIBERNATION MODE IS LURKING!

The Week In Review

Well it was a classic Halloween in the sense that we bought candy and only had a few trick or treaters...sigh, we must eat it ourselves. Even with our welcoming glowing pumpkins we didn't get the crowds. Friday night I went to my students' party which they really loved. None of them had ever been to a costume party as it is decidedly an American tradition. Some really got into it and they loved my Queen of the Fairies costume. Saturday I watched an interesting documentary and started and finished Tim Gunn's book. A fun, quick read. Who can't love Tim Gunn after a Project Runway marathon or two. I'm impressed with how he can incorporate the philosophical ponderings of many critical theorists into his analysis of "Quality, Taste, & Style"...Kierkegaard AND Roland Barthes!?

I did get to make some chocolate chip banana bread and muffins and that's accomplishment enough for the weekend!

We're doing the Pamchenko!

Last night I got to indulge in the cheesy ice skating love story known as The Cutting Edge...much to R's horror and incredulous mocking!
