The Nightmare Before Halloween

Last night R and I saw a great 3D version of The Nightmare Before Christmas to put us in the Halloween spirit. The 3D glasses were like real glasses and they had some incredible special effects before the movie started.

What are you sinking about?

I was thinking about this yesterday when I was at the English teachers conference. It still makes me laugh.

An Experiment

R's mom brought me these sweet little crocus pots. I planted the bulbs and will wait two weeks while they hide in the dark to see if some little flowers will grow.

Transitioning to the New Season

Even the mudroom is ready for the cooler weather! Summer version below.

Made This Fall Leaf Collage

Though it has been a busy fall, I have found some time for making things. Witness this fall leaf collage and the results of the pumpkin stabbing party: a corner cornucopia!

Working Saturday

Not much of a weekend because of our local conference WAESOL today.
Conferences can be fun because you meet interesting colleagues, eat pretty good food, and get free books from adoring publishers like these and these. It's pretty much the only time so much free stuff is thrown at teachers!
Tonight we're planning to go to the annual pumpkin stabbing party. Maybe I will try this.

Pumpkin Cannon

Here are some pictures from the pumpkin patch adventure. We are really enjoying this sunny...but strangely warm for late October...weather.

Sunbreak

The sun came out today and it has been glorious. There's a rumor that we might have a week or so of sunny days to come. The sogginess was setting in, so this is a very welcome change. Our weekend trip to the pumpkin patch complete with pumpkin cannon was a great success. I have a number of pumpkins for decorations and creative carving endeavors. I also got a gord that looks like a rubber chicken! Not bad for a Saturday afternoon!

Fall, How We Love Thee

More Mushroom Business and Other Goodies

I wasn't able to complete my former post with other favorites from the mushroom weekend. Today the rain gave us a break long enough to visit the pumpkin patch with our friends Keith and Amy and their baby Sam. A good time was had by all!

Adventures with the Mycological Society!

It's been a busy couple of weeks here at MADE THIS. We had a friend in town, joined the Mycological Society, went on a mushroom forage around the neighborhood, and enjoyed some beautiful sunny days. A bid storm is predicted for tonight and it is solid rain outside. Good weather for getting cozy and making things.

Apple Core, Who's Your Friend?

R made a giant apple crisp. So a photoshoot was in order.

A Nice Fall Meal

Celebrating Fall

This weekend we were able to enjoy some of the goodness of fall. We walked through the arboretum enjoying the Japanese Maples in fiery color, bought narcissus bulbs at the arboretum sale, and walked to the MOHAI (Museum of History and Industry) to take in the Audubon exhibit. We almost got caught in a downpour but made it home in time for chicken soup and handmade egg noodles. Loving the crispy colorful fall.

A Blog Is Born

Finally. A place to share the pictures, projects, snacks, goings-on and of course, making of things. Welcome to Made This. Named after my grandmother's small notes she attaches to things she has made and mailed to me and to honor all things homemade. Hopefully those of you who are far away can drop by and see what is going on here and those of you who are near can do the same. I look forward to spending some time here in blog-world!
